On Sunday the ball was lost
The dog probably took it
To a damp compost heap
at the bottom of the garden
and buried it
which the other nine missing plaything ;
the huge yellow football,
the small red ping-pong ball,
the orange ball from last Christmas,
the red tennis ball,
a turquoise ball with rings of scum around it,
a small green ball,
the blue ball,
and
the tiny marble.
Meanwhile, he rested
For he had made the Earth.
