George
was a penniless traveller
on a journey across land and sea.
One day, he arrived in a strange little
town.
Its name was Nothing For Free.
George felt hungry
and thirsty
but he couldn't afford to buy bread
so he stood at the door of a baker's
shop
and sniffed the fresh loaves instead.
Next thing, Mr
Crumb, the Baker,
rushed over and grabbed George's ear.
`Just what do you think you're doing?'
he cried.
`You can't smell bread for nothing round
here.'
'I'm sorry,'
said George. `I can't pay you.
I'm as poor as the birds in the trees.
I didn't know you charged for smelling
your bread.
I beg you, forgive me, please.'
